Overview :
Marec-Berard et al developed a model that can predict if a
pediatric patient with a solid tumor will develop severe anemia during the
month after starting chemotherapy and require red blood cell transfusion. The
model based on one developed previously by Ray-Coquard (senior author on the
paper, see next algorithm). The authors are from Centre Leon Berard, Lyon
Cedex, France.
Patient selection: age < 18 years of age, solid tumor and
receiving chemotherapy
Endpoint: Severe anemia requiring blood transfusion within
31 days of chemotherapy
Parameters at start of chemotherapy:
(1) ECOG performance scale
(2) hemoglobin
(3) absolute lymphocyte count
