Overview :

Cancer may present with certain clinical signs which should prompt a clinical examination.

 

General guidelines

(1) New symptoms that persist for days to weeks should be check by a physician.

(2) The earlier a cancer is diagnosed, the better the chances of successfully treating it.

(3) The symptoms associated with cancer can also be caused by conditions other than cancer.

 

Symptoms which should be checked:

(1) rapid weight loss without apparent cause

(2) a scab, sore or ulcer that does not heal within 3 weeks

(3) a blemish or mole that grows, bleeds or itches

(4) indigestion or difficulty swallowing

(5) nagging cough or hoarseness

(6) coughing up bloody phlegm

(7) thickening or lump in the breast or any other part of the body

(8) blood in urine without pain during urination

(9) change in bowel or bladder habits
