Overview :

Once a dosage regimen has been determined, sufficient medication should be dispensed to cover the treatment period.

 

number of pills or capsules to dispense =

= (number of pills or capsules per dose) * (number of doses per day) * (number of days for treatment)

 

number of liquid solution to dispense =

= (volume of solution in mL per dose) * (number of doses per day) * (number of days for treatment)

 

where:

• 1 teaspoon of drug solution = 5 mL

• Occasionally additional medication may be provided to make sure there is sufficient medication for a time period, for example when a person may be a trip or unable to reach a pharmacy.
