Overview :
The Disability Computation Chart is a scaled-down version of
the Rehabilitation Index for rapid assessment of a patient's resources for
rehabilitation.
Factors:
(1) general health
(2) previous work record
(3) intelligence
(4) personality
(5) emotional stability
(6) socioeconomic status
(7) rehabilitation potential
Scoring: 1 to 4 points, with 1 indicating very poor and 4
good
disability score =
= SUM(points for the 7 factors)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 7
• maximum score: 28
• The higher the score, the better the rehabilitation
potential.
Use in Estimating
Disability
percentage of modifying factors =
= (1 - ((disability score) / 28)) * 100
Robinson averaged the percent impairment due to severe skin
disease with the percent modifying factors to give a percent disability.
percent disability =
= ((percent impairment from 0 to 100) + (percent modifying
factors)) / 2
Comments:
• As the
disability score improves, the percentage of modifying factors decreases. This
is the opposite of what it probably should be. I have simple used the
disability score as a percent of optimum score in the implementation.
• Since the
minimum score is 7, there is a lower limit of 25% for the percent of optimum.
Scoring from 0 to 3 (or expanding the range to 0 to 4) might give a better
measure.
