Overview :
Active rewarming
with rapid reversal of hypothermia may be indicated if certain clinical factors
are present.
Indications for
rapid rewarming of a hypothermic patient:
(1)
cardiovascular collapse or instability
(2) patient core
temperature < 32.2°C
(3) insufficient
rewarming with passive methods
(4) adrenal
insufficiency, hypopituitarism, hypothyroidism
(5) severe
metabolic acidosis (lactic acidosis, ketoacidosis)
(6) peripheral
vasodilation (due to drugs, neurologic disease or spincal cord
transection)
(7) comorbid
conditions causing impaired thermoregulation
(8) comorbid
conditions resulting in increased heat loss
(9)
infant
