Overview :

The erythrocyte sedimentation rate is affected by room temperature. Manley developed a nomogram to correct for variation in room temperature. The author is from St. Stephen's Hospital in London.

Room temperature range: 15 to 35 degrees Celsius (60 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit)

Parameters:

(1) room temperature in °C

(2) ESR reading in mm in first hour

corrected ESR in mm in first hour =

= (A2 * ((observed reading)^2) + (A1 * (observed reading)) + A0

A2 =

= (0.000148 * (temperature in °C)) - 0.00271

A1 =

= (-0.0351 * (temperature in °C)) + 1.637

A0 =

= (0.005663 * ((temperature)^2)) - (0.2918 * (temperature)) + 3.666
