Overview :

The Prehospital Index (PHI) is a trauma severity scoring system intended for triaging patients by emergency response personnel at the site of injury.

 

Parameters:

(1) systolic blood pressure

(2) pulse rate

(3) respiratory rate

(4) consciousness

(5) penetrating wounds to chest and/or abdomen

= (points for systolic blood pressure) + (points for pulse) + (points for respirations) + (points for consciousness) + (points for penetrating wounds)

 

Interpretation:

• maximum score (indicating most affected): 24

• minimum score (indicating least affected: 0

• A score > 3 indicates major trauma.

• A score <= 3 indicates minor trauma.
