Overview :
Dionigi et al used their modification of Elebute and Stoner's
Sepsis Score (see previous section) in combination with serum complement factor
B levels to predict outcome in surgical patients with sepsis in the intensive
care unit (ICU). This can help identify patients who may benefit from more
aggressive therapy. The authors are from the University of Pavia in Italy.
Parameters:
(1) Sepsis Score of Dionigi et al
(2)
complement Factor B levels (using the Properdin B Factor B reagent kit, Beckman
Instruments; reference range not listed)

Limitations:
• The
complement factor B levels probably vary with methods, so that the values to use
for Factor B will have to be determined in an institution before it is used.
