Overview :

Ohura et al developed a simple scale for evaluating a patient for the risk of developing a pressure ulcer. This also correlates with the time necessary for the ulcer to resolve.

Parameters:

(1) self-sustainability (ability to be involved in activities of daily living)

(2) morbid bony prominence

(3) edema

(4) articular contraction

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 10

• The higher the score the greater the risk of developing a pressure ulcer and the longer it will take to resolve.
