Overview :

Total kidney mass is roughly proportional to body surface area. Correction for BSA is necessary if the BSA of the patient differs markedly from the average.

 

standardized creatinine clearance =

= creatinine clearance per standard surface area =

= calculated creatinine clearance * (1.73 / (BSA in square meters))

 

where:

• 1.73 is the BSA of the "average-sized" person in square-meters.
