The entire content of medal.org was developed over a period of more than 5 years by medical professionals and university staff. The company and its origin is essentially a US development with US medical staff and university professors driving the development.

The content is owned and developed by Medal.org Limited. We have a close relationship with the Institute of Algorithmic Medicine, which also owns a minority interest in the Company.

Currently, the key centers of medical and research activities are in the US with administration and corporate office in the UK.

Medical Field - Developments and Outlook

Improving quality and efficiency – Growing costs in the health systems market require tools to reduce costs by standardizing health care. There are a number of initiatives in play that aim to help make the health care system more efficient and higher quality, and consequently more cost-effective. Overall, decreasing unwarranted variation in medical practice and unnecessary care is seen as a priority, particularly geographic variation, since higher spending on health care in certain geographical areas does not correspond to better health outcomes.

Investment in information technology (IT) – Greater use of technology, such as electronic medical records (EMR), has been promoted and researched for its potential to more efficiently share information and reduce overhead costs. Medical algorithms will be used in the immediate future to link treatment with EMR management and billing. This will soon be a standard for the (US) medical services industry. $19 billion in federal funding has already been allocated to uniformly upgrade health IT, a major component of the Obama administration’s health reform plan, indicating that the movement to invest in IT has gained significant traction.

Future health systems will support better informed patients: the market for algorithmic medical treatment and administration – and also for self-diagnosing patients – will grow dramatically within the next 10 years. Growing costs in the health systems market requires tools to reduce costs by standardizing health care. As medical algorithms will be used for all these linked processes in providing medical services, and Medal.Org could and should as qualified authoritative and competent organization – in line with FDA regulations - maintain, control and provide these algorithms.

Opportunities

Growing costs in the health systems market require tools to reduce costs by standardizing health care. Medical algorithms are the foundation of all quality based, cost-saving medical developments.

Opportunities involve revolutionizing the entire field of medical decision making and Electronic Medical Records (EMR), as it relates to treatment, administration, payment services and quality control, because medical algorithms are the base of all quality based, cost-saving medical developments.

Medical algorithms are designed and developed to establish the link between treatment and EMR management as well as billing. This will soon be a standard for the (US) medical services industry.

Medal.org represents the worldwide leading internet platform of medical algorithms and is used around the world by medical staff and EMR administrators for objective and reliable medical decision making. As medical algorithms will be used for all these linked processes in providing medical services, and Medal.org could and should as qualified authoritative and competent organization – in line with FDA regulations – maintain, control and provide these algorithms.

Future health systems will have to deal with better informed patients: the market for algorithm-supported medical treatment and administration will grow dramatically within the next 10 years. Medal.org is exploring interfaces to into electronic health records, health card support, intelligent automation tools, and health assurance and administration services.

Medal.org can fill this marketplace, establish itself as a reference standard, and generate reliable and continuous fee revenues. Medal.org was developed over a period of more than 5 years by medical professionals and university staff.

The company has the vision plans to evolve into the biggest provider for electronic medical algorithms and online calculators integrated with Electronic Health Records (EHR), which will soon be a standard for the US medical services industry, and has good chances to expand to other services: electronic health record interface, health card support, intelligent automation tool, health assurance services.

Market potential for our medical algorithms platform in combination with Electronic Medical Records is estimated to be around $ 1-2 billion per year, as all hospitals will have to upgrade to a more standardized and cost-efficient therapy and administration systems in the near future.

User statements and testimonials

"This is one of the most useful medical sites available in the internet. Very good job!!"(P.E., MD PhD,Italy)

"I just want to let you know that I find the collection of algorithms very useful. Do you have them in a pocket pc form?"(Dr M.A.)

"First of all, I want to thank to you for your website, it's really usefull for us working in health area. ... I just want to ask you if it is possible to know the language availability of the questionnaires. For example I want to know if Functional Status Questionnaire has validity in Turkish." (M.S., PT, Dokuz Eylul University, School of Physical Therapy, Izmýr, Turkey)

"The Department of Veterans Affairs is in the process of upgrading its medical decision support capability and is exploring what resources would be helpful for our clinical and medical training missions. The MedAl collection of algorithms is the best we have identified so far, and we would like to discuss using your collection as the primary source of algorithms for our providers. If we can establish such an arrangement, this would certainly expand the usage of your tools, as well as being a significant clinical and educational resource for our clinicians. ..., and congratulations for compiling such an impressive and well-organized collection of tools." (M.G., MD, Chief, Medical Service)

What is a medical algorithm?

A Medical Algorithm is a step-by-step procedure for solving a medical problem. A medical calculator represents any computation, formula, survey, or look-up table useful in healthcare, for instance assessments, scores, and questionnaires, formulas, statistical analysis, computation, nomogram, or look-up table, useful in healthcare, including decision tree approaches to healthcare treatment and step-by-step procedures for solving and administering medical problems in diagnosis and therapy.

An example is provided below, illustrated by the Cardiac Risk Index.

Benefits of the Medical Algorithms Knowledge Base

Medal.org truly is a comprehensive medical knowledge base with a focus on measuring or assessing any medical condition and interest area. Medal.Org has the most highly qualified medical and academic staff generating and maintaining the algorithms data base. It represents the highest quality content and comprehensive documentation with the highest quality software usability and a broad range of service offerings, and allows radical improvement of clinical and administrative medical processes.

Our highly qualified medical and academic staff (MDs / Ph.D.s) is assuring an outstandingly high quality level in generating and maintaining the algorithms data base. Staff continually improves performance and efficiency: ongoing developments are continually increasing quality and speed; current efforts include enhanced standardization, automation and documentation of care.

Existing applications and usage benefits of the Medal.org "Medical Algorithms Knowledge Base Resource" include:

  • Expanded scope of practice: healthcare providers with access to Medal.org can expand their scope of practice beyond the routine, especially for obtaining reliable solutions to infrequently encountered problems.
  • Improved Performance and Efficiency: Automation of algorithms should increase the speed of execution and reduce errors in their use; enhance standardization, automation, and documentation of care.
  • Quality assurance: clinical quality assessment and quality improvement programs can be enhanced if algorithms are used and their use is audited. This reduces the risk of medical and administrative errors, as well as support of evidence-based medicine.
  • Potential for patient self-help: patients may benefit by being able to conduct self-diagnosis and targeted needs assessment; patients would be able to individually make more informed decisions.

Medal.org can be made available at point-of-care for decision support purposes. Front-end and back-end services help to increase quality assurance: clinical quality assessment and enhanced quality improvement programs by means of audited use of algorithms.

Our technology ties in with all currently discussed EHR and patient care developments, especially the drive to improve quality and reduce cost, and may well be the right foundation to become the primary provider and master administrator of medical assessment procedures.

Medal.Org is exploring interfaces to into electronic health records, health card support, intelligent automation tools, and health assurance and administration services.
